Local rules in mind
Several parts of the area are conservation areas, and on some the council controls changes to the front of a house (see below).

Neighbourhoods we work in
Our base is in Beckenham, and we cover the neighbourhoods around it: Eden Park, Elmers End, Park Langley, Shortlands, Kent House and Clock House. They sit in and around three of Bromley Council's wards: Clock House, Kelsey & Eden Park, and Shortlands & Park Langley.
Further out, we cover Bromley, Penge, Chislehurst, Orpington, Sidcup, Croydon, Crystal Palace, Sydenham, Forest Hill, Dulwich, Catford, Lewisham, Blackheath, Greenwich and Eltham. Bigger jobs, usually commercial ones, can take us anywhere in the South East of England.
Conservation areas: check before changing the front of your house
Bromley Council makes some streets conservation areas to protect their character and appearance, for their special architectural or historic interest. There are some extra planning controls in them.

Its Local Plan lists nine with Beckenham in their name: Aldersmead Road, Barnmead Road, Beckenham Place Park, Beckenham Town Centre, Chancery Lane, Downs Hill, Manor Way, Park Langley and Southend Road. The council says that list isn't complete, so check your address on its conservation areas map.
Painting a house doesn't usually need planning permission, as our exterior painting page explains. In the Barnmead Road and Chancery Lane conservation areas, Article 4 directions (council orders under which some changes to a house need a planning application first) affect the front:
- Barnmead Road, 1992. A direction covers painting the front and side walls of any building in the conservation area.
- Barnmead Road, 2000. A second direction covers painting a house's front and side walls where they face a road or open space, windows left out. What it means for roofs is on roofers in Beckenham.
- Chancery Lane. A 1984 direction brings the brick walls and the roof at the front under planning control; what it means for the roof is on roof repairs, and for render on plastering in Bromley.
The council's register lists all three directions with no end date (checked October 2026); you can read the Barnmead Road directions. Other directions may apply, so check the council's map and register before you change the front.
Live on one of these streets? Give us your address when you get in touch, so the quote allows for any permission the front of the house needs.
