Leaking joints to new runs: the gutter repairs we take on
When a gutter fails, rain runs down the wall instead of the downpipe, soaking the brickwork and, over time, rotting a timber fascia (the board along the eaves that holds the gutter).
Leaking joints, resealed or replaced.
Sagging runs, with brackets refixed or added so the gutter falls towards the downpipe again.
Cracked lengths, cut out and replaced.
Blocked gutters and downpipes, cleared of silt, leaves and moss.
Gutter replacement, when patching no longer holds.
Moss washing down from the tiles calls for roof cleaning. Gutters that only need repainting: exterior painting, by our own team.
Signs your gutters need repairing
Water spilling over the edge in heavy rain
Drips from the joints or corners
A run that sags or has pulled away from the wall
Plants growing in the gutter
Green or dark streaks on the brickwork below
A damp patch on the inside of that wall
Water coming through a ceiling usually points to the roof: see roof repairs.

Repair a section or replace the whole run?
Most guttering repairs are one joint, bracket or length, fixed on its own. When joints leak all along the run or no matching section can be found, a new run beats more patches.
Many houses have uPVC guttering; older ones often have cast iron, which needs repainting, and some have aluminium.
A rotten fascia is often replaced with the gutter: see fascia and soffit replacement. For gutter work in a Croydon conservation area, see roofers in Croydon.

Questions about gutter repair
Call 020 8249 7303
Do my gutters need cleaning or repairing?
Clearing may be enough if the gutter only overflows after leaves fall and the joints stay dry. Drips at the joints, a sag, or overflowing once it's clear mean it needs a repair.
Can you replace just one section of gutter?
Usually, if a new length with the same profile (its shape, such as half-round or square) can be joined to the old run. If not, replacing the run is the better fix.
Why does my gutter overflow when it isn't blocked?
Usually because the run has lost its fall (the slight slope towards the downpipe) or a bracket has dropped, so water pools and spills over.
Can gutters be cleared from the ground?
Some can, with long-reach tools. HSE's guidance on working at height says to do as much work as possible from the ground, and not to rest a ladder against weak upper surfaces such as plastic gutters.
