Flooring we take on for houses and flats
For every one of these floors we bring in a trusted flooring trade:
Carpet, stairs included: carpet fitters.
Sheet vinyl and LVT (luxury vinyl tiles): vinyl flooring.
Laminate, click boards laid as a floating floor (resting on an underlay, not fixed down): laminate floor fitters.
Solid or engineered wood (a real wood top layer on a layered core) and parquet, new or repaired: wood flooring.
A worn wooden floor brought back by sanding and resealing: floor sanding.
Resin, a seamless floor for garages and open-plan ground floors: resin flooring.
An uneven concrete base levelled with a screed first: floor screeding.
Offices, shops and blocks of flats are on our commercial flooring page.
Why book your floor through a decorating firm
The room finished, not just the floor. When the flooring trade has done its part, our own team repaints the skirting boards, doors and walls, so there's no decorator to book separately.
A reply within one working day to every enquiry.
On record since 2007. Companies House lists us under 06178781, incorporated on 22 March 2007; you'll also find us on Checkatrade and verified on MyBuilder, with £5 million public liability insurance.
Which floor suits which room in your home
Water, wear and noise decide most of it:
| Room | Usually suits | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Kitchen | Vinyl or LVT | Copes with spills and wipes clean |
| Bathroom | Sheet vinyl or LVT | Takes water, with the edges sealed |
| Hallway | LVT, laminate or wood | Stands up to grit and heavy foot traffic |
| Living room | Wood, laminate or carpet | Comes down to look and comfort |
| Bedroom | Carpet | Warm and quiet underfoot |
| Stairs | Carpet | Grip and less noise |
Wood or laminate? A solid wood floor can be sanded again when it wears, and engineered wood can too if its top layer is thick enough; laminate can't, but it usually costs less.
Before the floor goes down: the base, the timing and your lease
The base
A floor is only as flat as what's under it, so loose boards are fixed and uneven concrete is levelled or screeded first.
The timing
In a renovation the new floor goes down once the messy trades have finished; see home renovations.
Your lease
In a flat, read your lease before you swap carpet for a hard floor, and ask your freeholder or managing agent if it isn't clear.

What the price of a new floor depends on
The floor you choose
carpet, vinyl and laminate usually cost less than solid wood or resin.
The size and shape
stairs, bay windows and many doorways mean more cutting.
The base
lifting the old floor, fixing boards or screeding an uneven base.
The finishing
thresholds between rooms, and skirting boards or doors to trim and repaint.

Your questions about a new floor
Call 020 8249 7303
What is the best flooring for a kitchen?
Vinyl or LVT suits most kitchens: both cope with spills and wipe clean. Laminate can work in a dry kitchen, but standing water can swell its joints.
Is vinyl or laminate better?
Vinyl for kitchens, bathrooms and anywhere that gets wet; laminate for living rooms, bedrooms and hallways, where it feels more like a wooden floor underfoot. Both usually cost less than real wood.
Do I need to empty the room?
Yes, the room has to be clear before the new floor goes down. How the furniture is moved depends on the job, so raise it at the free visit.
Do you paint the skirting boards once the floor is down?
Yes. Skirting boards and doors are woodwork, which our own team paints, so they can be done, or the whole room redecorated, in the same job.
Can you replace a floor straight after a leak?
No. Flooring is planned work, quoted after a visit, so we don't take on emergency or same-day jobs. Have the leak fixed and the base dried out first, then ask us to quote for the new floor.
