Why choose us to paint your rooms
Decorating is our own trade
Most of our MyBuilder reviews are for interior work.
Preparation before paint
Cracks filled, surfaces sanded and bare wood primed before any top coat, so the finish looks even in any light.
Care with older houses
Old paint, Artex and lime plaster are raised before any work starts, so you know what to check.
A firm you can check
Registered at Companies House since 2007, on Checkatrade and verified on MyBuilder.
What our interior painting covers
Walls, in emulsion over filled and sanded plaster
Ceilings, with fine cracks filled and old stains sealed so they don't bleed through
Woodwork: doors, frames, skirting boards, stairs and banisters
Wallpaper: new paper hung, old paper stripped
Hall, stairs and landing, tall stairwell walls included
Small repairs before painting; where a wall needs more than filling, see our plasterers page

Woodwork, staining and varnishing
Interior woodwork can be painted, stained or varnished. Painted woodwork usually takes an undercoat, then gloss, eggshell or satinwood. Varnishing stairs that were varnished before means cleaning and sanding the old coat so the new coats grip. Painting banisters gives a handrail that wipes clean, and varnishing doors brings back the grain on panelled timber.

Wallpaper hangers: new paper hung, old paper stripped
Expensive paper doesn't forgive a bad wall. Hanging wallpaper well starts with a filled, sanded surface, sometimes lined with lining paper, then a pattern matched from drop to drop and clean cuts at corners, ceiling and skirting. Old paper comes off with steam or water, and the plaster beneath is repaired before it's painted or papered again.
How it works
- 01
Tell us about the rooms
Which ones, and a few photos if you have them.
- 02
We visit and quote
We come and look at the job before we quote, and we put the quote in writing. Both are free.
- 03
Preparation
Furniture grouped under dust sheets, floors covered, marked surfaces washed with sugar soap, cracks filled and sanded, bare wood primed.
- 04
Painting, top to bottom
Ceiling, then walls, then woodwork, with the skirting boards last, so drips never land on a finished surface.
Older homes: check before you start
In an older house, check these before anyone sands, scrapes or strips:
Textured ceilings
Any home built or refurbished before 2000 may contain asbestos, and textured coatings such as Artex can contain it. Don't work on it yourself without training: the HSE's page on textured coatings says the work is for people trained to work safely with asbestos.
Old lead paint
Lead paint was common before the 1970s, and on banisters, doors, frames and windowsills it may still be under newer coats (UK Health Security Agency). The HSE's guidance on lead paint says sound paint stays in place, no blowlamps, and children and pregnant women kept away.
Mould
Paint over mould and it comes back, so damp is treated first by your specialist. Stripping mouldy paper can release spores, and government guidance on damp and mould in rented homes recommends protective equipment for it.
Lime plaster
On lime plaster, Historic England's repair advice is not to use modern paints such as acrylic emulsions, because they stop moisture escaping.
Listed houses
If your house is listed, Historic England notes that taking out original features such as cornices, picture rails or panelling needs consent; our exterior painting page explains when listed building consent applies.
What affects the price of interior painting
Every room is priced after a visit. What moves the price most:
The rooms: how many, how big and how high the ceilings are.
The stairwell: hall, stairs and landing have tall walls that take longer to reach.
The condition: how much filling, sanding or stripping comes first.
The woodwork: how much there is, and whether it's painted or varnished.
The coats: a big change of colour needs more coats than a refresh in the same shade.

Questions about interior painting in Beckenham
Call 020 8249 7303
How much does it cost to paint a room?
It depends on the room's size and ceiling height, the preparation and the amount of woodwork; a colour change or a stairwell adds to it. The visit and the written quote are free.
How long does it take to paint a room or a whole house?
It depends on the number of rooms, the preparation and the drying time between coats; a whole house is usually done room by room.
Can you varnish over old varnish on stairs?
Yes, if it's sound: clean it and sand it so the new coat grips. In a pre-1970s house, check any old paint for lead first, as above.
