Plastering in Beckenham and South East London

Plasterers near you in Beckenham and Bromley for cracks that keep showing, ceilings stained after a leak and plaster that sounds hollow. We repair the wall or ceiling and then paint it, so the room is finished, not just patched.

Why choose us for plastering and repairs

  • Plaster and paint from one firm

Plastering and decorating are our own trade: one quote, and no second trade to book.

  • Repairs in the right order

Leak stopped, wall dry, crack stable, and only then plaster and paint.

  • A firm you can check

Registered at Companies House since 2007, on Checkatrade and verified on MyBuilder.

Plastering we take on: skimming, patching and cracks

Most plastering in a lived-in house is repair, not new walls:

  • Skimming walls and ceilings: a smooth surface that takes paint evenly.

  • Patch repairs and holes: blown plaster cut back and made good.

  • Crack filling: cracks that have stopped moving, filled flush so they don't show.

  • Water-damaged ceilings: stains and soft patches after a leak.

  • Making good after damp treatment: the plaster and decoration that follow your specialist.

If the plastering is part of a bigger job, it fits into our home renovation work.

Water-damaged ceiling repair

Stop the leak, let the ceiling dry right through, then repair the plaster and paint it over a primer that seals the stain. A sagging lath-and-plaster ceiling may not have to come down: for historic buildings that have got wet, Historic England's guidance on repairing old plaster says removing old lime plaster is rarely justified, as it usually hardens again once dry and loose sections can be repaired locally.

How it works

  1. Tell us what's happened

Send photos and say whether there's been a leak or damp treatment.

  2. We visit and quote

We come and look at the job before we quote, then put the quote in writing. The visit and the quote are free.

  3. We repair, then decorate

The plaster is patched or skimmed, and once it's dry, primed and painted if you'd like.

Plastering and painting: one firm from bare wall to last coat

With separate plasterers and decorators, one is usually waiting for the other. Because we plaster and then paint, you deal with one firm from start to finish. New plaster is painted only when it's dry right through; how long that takes depends on its thickness, the room and the time of year.

Replastering and redecorating after damp proofing

Damp treatment can leave a room with the plaster hacked off. The treatment is your specialist's job; ours comes after your specialist installs the DPC (damp-proof course): making good the walls and decorating the room. Follow their instructions on the plaster for a treated wall; the paint goes on once it has dried out.

Three checks before you book a plasterer

  • Is the crack still moving? Historic England's advice on structural movement is that most old buildings move a little and a crack on its own may not be a concern. If it keeps reopening or getting wider, have a structural engineer who knows old buildings look at it before anyone fills it.

  • Is it lime plaster? Older houses often have lime plaster, which Historic England says shouldn't be covered with modern emulsions or oil-based paints; there's more on that on our interior painting page.

  • White render in Petts Wood? In the Chislehurst Road, The Covert and The Thrifts conservation areas, Bromley's 2025 plans ask for render to be repaired and repainted with materials that let it move and breathe, and warn that products claiming to stop damp altogether can make it fail faster (Bromley's management plan for Chislehurst Road). Ask which materials will be used.

What affects the price of plastering

Five things move the price most:

  • Size and surface: a patch on one wall is a different job from skimming a whole ceiling.

  • The plaster that's there: blown or crumbling plaster has to come off first.

  • Drying time: after a leak or damp treatment, work waits for the surface to dry.

  • Access: high ceilings and stairwells need boards or a platform.

  • Painting afterwards: decorating in the same job.

Questions about plastering in Beckenham

Call 020 8249 7303

How much does a plasterer charge?

It depends on the job: the area to be covered and, often just as much, the state of the plaster already on the wall.

Will a plasterer near me take on a small job?

We do: patching blown plaster, filling holes and repairing cracks, and painting the repair afterwards.

Does a painter and decorator do plastering?

Some do and some don't. We do both, so one firm repairs the wall and paints it.

How long should new plaster dry before painting?

Until it's dry right through, which depends on the plaster's thickness, the room's ventilation and the season.

Should cracks be filled before painting?

Yes, if they've stopped moving; filled and sanded flush, they won't show through. A crack that keeps reopening needs its cause looked at first.
